In developing any project, there must be a clearly defined destination with a detailed path on how to arrive. The Phase 1 segment of the American Cowgirls Project is both a Photographic and Artistic journey that will lead to a major Art Auction in 2021 pending completion of the paintings. This will require 25 original watercolor paintings to be completed by the Artist. As of July 23, 2020, 23 Paintings have been completed, with the goal of the final 2 paintings by the end of 2020 or by the end of Spring 2021, but we are remaining flexible to the timing as life events are in constant change. The goal of this project has been to confirm through our SUBMISSION and SELECTION process, 25 Real American Cowgirls from across the United States with a good cross section from as many different States as possible. Flexibility was maintained and reassessed at the halfway point of the project. Preliminary goal was to have a maximum of 4 Cowgirls from any specific State but with only 2 remaining Cowgirls to be added into the line-up, this criteria will no longer be followed. Currently there are 23 Official American Cowgirls in the line-up. The Remaining 2 spots will be filled by within the next 9 months. These 25 American Cowgirls will remain with the Project in all future endeavors associated with this Project. There is an established protocol on the selection process which is outlined on the page on this website on the “ APPLYING TO become one of Gabriel Krekk's American Cowgirls.” Once a commitment is made to accept a Cowgirl into the line-up, the Artist will get to understand the life of the new Cowgirl. This will be accomplished through embedding himself into her life for a short period of time during the photoshoots, through the interview process and through occasional interactions. This will be so important as the Artist tries to identify with everything he has come to know about her. With these intentions, the Artist will be able capture his observations when he is behind the board creating the painting of that Cowgirl. Each cowgirl will undergo a complete photoshoot in her environment or within her specialty field with the photoshoots taking up to 5 days to complete. The objective is to capture a minimum of 3,000 images.from the initial photoshoots. The photoshoots will have two specific purposes which includes focus on portraiture for the Cowgirl's portfolio and the other is to secure one or more images that the Artist feels inspired enough to paint.
